There's quite a lot of speculation regarding the year 2012 and the hasted approach and flurry of historical prophecies coming to life all around us. Especially the ones surrounding the Mayan calendar and the entire Planet X 2012 theory. As a result there are many authors promoting literature about 2012 predictions and one of the major players in all of this hype -- as well as perhaps THE premier expert on Planet X 2012 theory -- is Zecharia Sitchin.
Zecharia Sitchin's work is based on his understanding of the ancient Sumerians (one of the very first civilizations on Earth whom ultimately developed and cultured where Egypt is currently in these days) and their language. Having devoted his entire life to studying and interpreting these ancient texts and what are known as "cuneiform tablets", he is one of a select few people who've managed to translate these Sumerian ancient hieroglyphics into a comprehensive format. And not only that, but also deliever the story to the public. According to Sitchin, the Sumerians knew of every single planet in our solar system -- intimiately, even -- such as what colors they were, how many moons they had and their agriculture and weather. They even knew that Mars used to have water on it. Keyword there is "used to".
The Sumerians were said to have been taught all that they knew by their gods, the Anunnaki -- whose name roughly translates into "those from heaven who have come to the earth". The Anunnaki, according to Sitchin's cuneiform translations, came from another planet they called Nibiru -- whose name roughly translates into "planet of the crossing". The Sumerians fanatically believed Nibiru arrived into the Solar System once every 3,600 years thanks to its very long elliptical-esque orbit. Basically, the Anunnaki were supposedly an advanced race of beings who visited Earth one time in the past and started the very first civilization. Astronomers nowadays are searching for this planet which they call Planet X, otherwise known as the planet of the unknown or also sometimes the tenth planet. Hence the entire Planet X 2012 theory.
Back in 1990 Zecharia Sitchin met with a Dr. Robert Harrington, who was a Supervising Astronomer at the US Naval Observatory at the time. Harrington had told Sitchin that they were trying to find Planet X and ever since then it's become the subject of controversy among astronomers and 2012 prophecy theorists alike.
