Most Common Predictions for 2012

People throughout the world are buzzing about the predictions of an apocalyptic event that is supposedly going to take place on Dec. 21, 2012. These predictions have been on going for a number of years and have gotten even more attention in the last few years, as the given date is rapidly approaching. Predictions from modern era pseudo-scientists like Zecharia Sitchin and Nancy Lieder, to the awe inspiring Mayan Calendar and centuries gone Nostradamus, they all have in common one thing, predictions for 2012.

The Mayan Calendar, which works like a clock, apparently ends on the winter solstice of the year 2012. It is commonly believed that when this date comes there will be an end of the world type event. Although it is not clear what will happen, scholars believe and agree on one thing, sometime big is going to take place. Many believe it will be the return of the Mayan god, Quetzalcoatl. Others say it signifies the end of an era. Which ever it is, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Nostradamus made predictions for 2012 during his lifetime in the 1500’s. He wrote in his famous quatrains, which were compiled into a book called The Prophecies, about a massive comet which will pass by or crash into Earth causing mass destruction. He also made predictions for 2012 concerning a third world war, which is to happen near the time of the comet. What makes the predictions for 2012 made by Nostradamus intriguing is the fact that throughout history his predictions have came to pass. From Napoleon Bonaparte, to J.F.K., to the fire that destroyed London in 1666. From Adolf Hitler and the second world war, to the terror attacks that caused the destruction of the World Trade Center, he has foreseen them all.

Zecharia Sitchin wrote of a planet called Nibiru, which was also dubbed Planet X by Nancy Lieder. Sitchin denied his work having anything to do with Lieder, but there are striking similarities. Nibiru, or Planet X is supposedly a massive planet on an elongated orbit around the solar system. Every 3600 years it is said to come close to planet Earth, causing the rotation of Earth to cease for a period of days.Lieder originally said the date was to be in May of 2003, but she later retracted that statement. No matter the involvement of Lieder and Sitchin, both of their work is like the predictions for 2012 made by Nostradamus.

Stonehenge is another great work of art that came into existence over 2000 years ago. It also works like a clock, only it is counting backwards, like a countdown timer. Scholars have determined that the last day the Heelstone will cast a shadow into the center of the enormous circle will be winter solstice, Dec. 21, 2012. What can this mean for our world?

No one knows for sure what awaits us in the near future. A disaster of biblical proportions? A shift of the magnetic poles? Massive comets or asteroids? The return of a god or gods? We will all have to just wait and see.

Good point George, another thing to watch is how the stock market will fare this year as well. Hopefully the US doesnt get hit by a terrorist attack, that would be horrible.
