The Mayan Calendar, which is several thousand years old, is a very complex and accurate way of keeping time. This calendar is far superior to the Gregorian Calendar that the world knows today. The Mayan Calendar is a long count calendar, which abruptly ends on Dec. 21, 2012. It is widely speculated that this ending signifies the end of the world. As it counts forward in a 52 year cycle, the 2 sections of the Mayan Calendar work like the gears of clock, with the exact same teeth meeting in the exact same location every 52 years. The 2 sections are known as the Tzolkin and the Tun. The Tzolkin is a personal calendar that everyone used and the Tun is a spiritual calendar, which was used by the shamans. What were these 2 sections, which make the 1 Mayan Calendar, counting to?

Theories have ranged from a cosmic event, such as a galactic alignment, to a renewal period in the cycles of the world. The Mayan people were thought to have had vast knowledge of the cosmos. This includes the precise timing of solar and lunar eclipses. It is these speculations that lead scientists and archaeologists to conclude that the Mayan Calendar was on a countdown to the next galactic alignment. The Mayan Calendar is not counting down as commonly believed, but is counting forward in time. The great Mayan pyramids are all built in the same way, each having 9 tiers, each tier with 13 sections. These sections represent the days of creation, as in the Book of Genesis, with 7 days and 6 nights. With hard scientific and historical fact, scholars have mapped the Mayan Calendar back over 16 BILLION years. 16 Billion is a very large number, which is almost inconceivable even by today’s standards.

A man named Ian Xel Lungold believed that the Mayan Calendar was counting the cycles of human consciousness, with each cycle getting shorter than the previous by 13 fold. His studies showed that the cycles started over 16 billion years ago and have counted forward throughout history, each ending with a significant historically recorded event. These cycles are all represented by the tiers of the Mayan pyramids, with each successive tier fitting into the last day of the previous. By his calculations, we are very close to a renewal of the cycles, and a new stage in the evolution of the human consciousness. This shortening of the cycles does not mean that time is speeding up. It means that creation is speeding up to the point to where as soon as we think an idea, the thought has already been made a reality. With the rate that technology is advancing, this is not so far fetched.

What will be ushered in during the year 2012? Will it be the end of the world? This is quite possible considering the current state of the world’s affairs. Is it the beginning of a new cycle of the human consciousness? This is also a very real possibility, with scientific and historical facts setting the guidelines for this way of thinking. All we can do is sit back and watch it unfold.
