End of the World Survival Gear

When most people here the words “end of the world”, they take to heart with a pessimistic attitude the absolute end. Nothing left, as well as no one left. Switching those gears may be hard for some. Just accepting the end is how they believe is the only way. Positive attitude prevailing, there are many things you can do to prepare for the impending apocalypse. End of the world survival gear can be stored right alongside other emergency or disaster supplies. These items are fairly easy to acquire and are usually inexpensive.

First, and definitely most important, are food and water. Canned foods such as vegetables and fruits are a very good choice. Tuna and other canned meats, such as pulled pork and hams, are another good choice. There are many companies that offer dried foods in bulk fashion. These are all in sealed cans that come with re-sealable lids. Foods in this fashion range from dried meats, T.V.P. (texturized vegetable protein), powered eggs and milk, cheeses and soup bases. The most important aspect of these types of foods is that they last decades even after being opened. Water is less costly, as you can save milk jugs and two liter soda bottles and refill them with water. Store all foods and water in a cool, dry location.

Next, having a good shelter is very important, although this isn’t exactly end of the world survival gear per say. What’s the use of having all of those delightful foods if there’s nowhere to keep it? Digging and preparing an underground shelter can be very expensive, so let’s look at what is already there. The place of residence should be prepared so to be easily defended and comfortable for an extended stay with no outside contact. After all it is home. Know the blind spots inside and around your home. This helps in home defense. Store extra blankets, and consider installing a wood burning stove. The electricity is likely to be the first thing to go down in a disaster situation. The wood burning stove should have a very large store of fire wood to go with it.

Shotguns and a good handgun, with a large cache of ammo, can provide your family with security and are ideal for home defense. Slingshots and crossbows, as well as longbows are another option, and are far quieter. Good cutting tools are a must for any end of the world survival gear kit. A good hatchet, machete and fixed blade knife are very valuable tools. As with all weapons, always practice safety and teach others how to practice safety.

Army surplus stores usually have anything a person could want or need when it comes to end of the world survival gear. From gas masks and chemical suits to boots and clothing to M.R.E.’s (Meals, Ready to Eat) and water purifying kits, these places have it all. These items mentioned here is just the tip of the iceberg. Most of these depots can special order items when needed.
Finally, let’s talk about in the event of having to flee from home. The end of the world survival gear in this scenario will change. For basic survival there are five “C’s”. These are:
1. Cutting tool for preparing food, shelter and any number of tasks.
2. Container for boiling water and preparing food.
3. Combustion device such as weatherproof matches and flint/steel strikers.
4. Cordage, 550 paracord is best, but bank line will suffice.
5. Cover, which can be a tarp, wool blanket, or Mylar rescue blanket are best.

If on the run, these five “C’s” can help keep you alive. Gather the items in this group and practice regularly. Teach others what you know. Knowledge is probably as important as food and clean water and should be thought of as end of the world survival gear just like a shotgun. Knowledge is a powerful weapon and knowing what to do could help save your life.
